Shocking...

Of all the matches I have seen at the Edens, today was by far the most disappointing and what disappointed me more than the poor performance of the side was the attitude and the behaviour of the crowd.

Just because Saurav Ganguly wasn't playing, these buggers were trying to show that they are supporting South Africa to prove that without him the Indian team is impotent. The crowd reaction to Sachin's and Dravid's dismissals showed it all. They clapped and cheered. I am not supporting their poor performance, but I don't think the public has the right to boo people who have contributed such a lot to Indian cricket. Not to forget that in his last appearance at Eden gardens, Dravid had scored back to back hundreds. Why did you cheer him then and boo him today? Just because he has taken over the captaincy of the team that till recently belonged to Sourav?

It basically proves that these people put individuals above the team. Sourav had been shown the boot on the back of a lean patch that had continued for so long that it wasn't a patch anymore. The international arena is not the place where you try and regain form. And now that he has performed he has been selected for the test team. What's wrong with that? It's 100% fair play.

Above all, a pitch condusive to pace ballers had been prepared so that Indian batsmen have problems and the absence of Saurav is felt ... this is heights of narrow mindedness. CAB should be penalised for this by not holding any more matches here for sometime.

I am sorry that I was a part of such an unsporting crowd today.

i protest against a demented coach like greg who in such an imp. match sends pathan to open, not even the australians would have done such a mistake.
anyway almst a lakh went to eden not to protest but most went to see a good match which they never saw and there was no sourav, what do u expect, the crowd would be partisan.
try taking sachin out of wankhede see what happens.sourav occupies the same stature in edens. anyway like the chennai crowd even the kolkata crowd became sporting. but what do u say abt the middle finger incident?
the worst behaviour of eden crowd was in semifinal of world cup and do not forget abt the incident of no sachin no test. the eden crowd is passionate everyone knows u have to take sides there is no neutral ground in eden.
beating minnows like sri lanka is one thing but beating a professional side like s.a. is another, less experimentation more cutting down on mistakes. dont u feel angry abt the fact that ganguly has been brought back as an allrounder batsman when he scored a century in his last test.this debate is a never ending one.

That's not a justification. Wankhede is not a model to be followed, even if we consider that behaviour a possibility there.

Showing allegiance to Sourav because he is bengali is disgraceful, to bengalis more than anyone else.

Saying such a thing is to take away credit from Indian players. Sri Lankans are not minnows.

less experimentation more cutting down on mistakes.

Sometimes only experimentation can bring out the best combination for a team. Experiments go wrong sometimes, other times they succeed thats hardly an excuse for a "cricket-loving" crowd to behave like narrow-minded louts.

Debate? Not to me, it isnt. Sourav has been playing poorly for a long time in international cricket. He has played well in domestic cricket recently, so he'll prolly be back in the squad. Big deal.

I thought it was very unbecoming of Sourav to say that he expects to be in the team because of his contribution in the "last ten years" (not an exact quote but an approximation). If you dont perform, not only are you not performing, you are taking the place of a younger player in form for whom that chance in the squad could be a big boost.

Having been as good a captain as he was, I had hoped he (and Calcuttans) would behave less immaturely.

That is what makes me angry.

But then, I have long since given up expecting anything from Calcutta.

Rotting archeological ruin.
